John Ball

John Ball is a dedicated and experienced performer and teacher of North Indian music specialising in both tabla and the one hundred stringed santoor.
Since 2008 he has been Musician in Residence at the University of Sheffield, where he teaches tabla, santoor and Improvisation.
As a performer, he regularly accompanies Indian Classical Vocalists, Instrumentalists and Kathak dancers both in the UK and abroad and has featured at several major festivals including Womad, Edinburgh Festival, London Jazz, Musicport and Brecon Jazz.

John performs and composes for several cross-cultural music projects including Unfurl where he features on both tabla and santoor in an innovative quintet playing original compositions inspired by traditional Indian music repertoire.
John is available for solo and ensemble performances (inc. indian music for weddings/corporate events) private tuition and workshops.
